Vodacom Tanzania ContractsTechnology Associates to deploy HP Proliant Server for it’s IN, IT & Billing Platform.
Vodacom Tanzania Limited is a subsidiary company of Vodacom (pty) limited, the largest cellular operator in the African continent. Vodacom (pty) Ltd. won a bid to operate a GSM cellular network in Tanzania and formed the subsidiary company Vodacom Tanzania Limited in 2000.
Since then the company has been experiencing explosive year on year growth, and today Vodacom is the leading cellular operator in Tanzania with a subscriber base of more than 1 Million. Vodacom provides the best and most extensive mobile coverage across the country.
IT & Billing play a crucial role at Vodacom and the existing systems were not scalable for their growing environment. Their host of new services had to be launched in Tanzania requiring additional Infrastructure rollout for IT, IN & Billing.
For its IT, IN & Billing Infrastructure roll-out, Vodacom Tanzania chose an array of HP Proliant Servers from Technology Associates Tanzania. The contract comprised of the HP Proliant DL380/580 series Density optimized models for flexibility and manageability, and the HP Proliant ML350/370 & ML530 series for maximum internal storage and I/O flexibility. All the servers have been installed in HP 42U Racks thereby ensuring space utilization & growth within cabinet.
In another project at the fastest growing cellular operator, Technology Associates undertook a mission-critical messaging migration on the MS Exchange 2003 platform.
Mail & Messaging infrastructure is key to Vodacom’s business and with the explosive growth of its operations and number of users; the mail data size had grown to reach the maximum 16 GB limit on MS Exchange. As a result the messaging infrastructure experience intermittent hanging of the infrastructure.
Technology Associates Tanzania successfully accomplished this critical upgrade of Windows Domain server 2000 to 2003 & Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 Server Enterprise for compliance to standards. During the infrastructure upgrade, Vodacom had 350 Mailboxes, with a Data Capacity of 23GB, which included both Public folders as well as Mailboxes. The Active Directory service is designed for distributed networking environment with a single point of management for windows-based user accounts, clients, servers and application. The migration was smooth and did not result in any downtime of the critical infrastructure or any mail loss.
