Technology Associates Kenya builds 24 x7 data processing infrastructure for Africa’s leading Steel Rolling Mill.

Mabati Rolling Mills is the Flagship operations of the Chandaria group, Kenya’s largest industrial group and one of the largest business houses in Africa. It has the largest Cold Rolled Steel processing setup in the Eastern Africa region and has been a winner of the COYA awards, recognized for their leadership in business processes, operations and management.

When they reviewed their IT systems, Mabati Rolling contracted us to build a 24 x 7 data centre at their Mariakani plant using two HP dual node cluster for their SQL based Solomon ERP and Process manufacturing applications. The platform also offers an enterprise-wide messaging infrastructure including an online link to their Kisumu and Athi River offices.

The project involved the entire migration of Mabati’s Windows active directory services to the Microsoft Windows 2000 platform, to gain from a correctly designed and architected platform offering improved security, Seamless management and Scalability. Technology Associates Kenya consultants migrated the Mabati network domain to Active Directory, migrated Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000 and re-designed their ISA security Server. We configured Static load balancing by manually forcing their Solomon ERP application to run off one server and the Production application to run off the other Server. And effectively the Primary owner of one application is one node and that of the secondary application is the other node. In phase I, we configured the First Cluster by resolving Database and Applications Servers on two New HP Proliant ML 370R Servers.

One running the Solomon SQL 2000 Database & another running the Production SQL 2000 based applications. Each Server becomes Highly Available for 99.99% redundancy. We implemented HP’s MSA 1000 Cluster storage system to host both applications and connectivity was achieved through the HP Fibre Channel 6 port Switch. In phase II, we configured the Second Cluster running the Exchange 2000 and Advance 2000 Domain Controller Server with two New HP Proliant ML 370R Servers. HP’s high availability cluster solutions using HAF/200 provided availability and load balancing using different loops.
